When coming Laos, let’s explore Nong Khiaw – Muang Ngoi. It will brings the great moment for you!
Pristine river beauty, dramatic landscape changes, unrivaled karst scenery, narrow jungle covered ravines, steep cathedral-like slopes ascending from the water reaching for the heavenly skies, wisps of light give a sense of mystique silent tranquility, unspoiled tribal villages only accessible by boat and TV satellite dish – simply authentic, remote Laos!
This is the proverbial Nam Ou river scenery upstream from Nong Khiaw, a tiny town which only few years ago made it to maps of exploring tourists. However, the town is easy to reach from Luang Prabang in the south on 3 hours drive by car or by boat and it’s half the road link from either here or from Oudomxay (north-west) to the wildlife rich National Protected Area Nam Et – Phou Loei in the east.
Nong Kiaw can serve as a starting point for unmatched tours. The paradise depicted above is ideally explored by kayak or raft downstream from Muang Khua or even Phongsali and further down to Luang Prabang. For the less adventurous and sportive, engine powered boats, private or public, can be chartered in Nong Kiaw and other places. But this is by no means all! Trekking, rock climbing, cycling and a variety of other activities – or just only relaxing – add to the attractiveness of the town and invite to stay a day longer.
